Summer passing
August 3, 2011 by fibrefrolics
Here we are in August already with the first leaves turning golden, rose hips forming and all the late Summer flowers blooming in the garden. Now this is all very beautiful and I do love Autumn as a season, but I am not quite ready to sample all these delights just yet. Did we miss out Summer somewhere along the way? We enjoyed 2 weeks of sunshine in April and since then, the odd day here and there. Am I looking through rose tinted specs, or did we really have long hot Summers in the Fifties and Sixties when one spent all holidays in T-shirts, shorts and jelly sandals. The seasons seem to be all tangled up nowadays which I find unsettling. Hope you all have an enjoyable, sunny August before we slide into Autumn.

We’re certainly getting Summer here in the Midlands although the plant cycle does seem to be veering towards Autumn. I haven’t had the patio doors closed for a couple of weeks now. I don’t remember the long hot summers as being quite as humid as they are these days but I suppose that is down to the increased levels of pollution. Beautiful collage.
Phew! It’s about 25 degrees and sunny here in Southampton at the mo and we’ve had a lot of sunny days this summer, but we’ve hardly had any rain this year which is bad news all round – an odd few dismal weeks, but not enough for the resevoirs.
I shall be sad when autumn comes because I love the long days (yours are much longer aren’t they?) and being able to live with doors and windows wide open.
amendment – it’s just hit 29 degrees – no wonder my hands are too clammy to handle the wool!
I know what you mean and that mosaic of yours certainly looks like autumn. However today we have been for a walk and there are lots of poppies blooming the fields are filled with ripening corn and the temperature was very warm and sunny. I think we have had some lovely summery days but if you work you might have missed them – that’s one advantage of being retired you can enjoy nice days when they arrive and not have to wait till the weekend when it might be raining or dull! Maybe we will have a long Indian summer and the slide into winter will be later to make up for the mixed bag we have been having.
I photographed some autumn finds the other day and although I love the colours of autumn very much I am not ready for it either and it does a bring a sadness with it. I do love your mosaic very much dear Penny
Look forward to your autumn finds in a few weeks tho’ ;o)
Lovely autumnal colours. It’s still very green in my garden but I’m seeing a few soft shades of gold in the countryside round here.
